I’ve been using DND for a few weeks and it’s been a lifesaver for me!

It doesn’t work if you are using the phone and I think it will let VIP contacts through - so are the FaceTime’s that are coming through VIP? I have FaceTime turned off as I hate it.

I don’t see any setting in FaceTime for VIP.

There isn’t. But if you have certain contacts setup as VIP, they may come through. I’m not sure, but I know it works for phone calls.

Thanks Diane, I must say I'm surprised that Apple don't include FaceTime in the DND.  Quite bizarre :)

Re: Do Not Disturb On

You can confirm that it does not? That is truly bizarre! I found that to be the most intrusive of ways to be contacted. I enjoyed having my phone ring through the laptop but had to turn it off as it was attached to FaceTime which I dislike very much.

It absolutely does, and treats it like any other call.

People were calling you using FaceTime? Or are you afraid that using FaceTime on the Mac will magically transform a call into a video call?

I answer calls on my Mac all the time, and I don't think I have ever answered (or received) a video FaceTme call on my Mac (I only use FaceTime video when I am traveling away from my family and want to talk to and see my wife).

Umm, I must’be doing something wrong. Turned DND on and used another phone to text, WhatsApp, phone and FaceTime. Phone and FaceTime both sounded but text and WhatsApp didn’t.

Was the phone you set to DND also locked before you tried to call it?  There’s a setting under DND for silence always vs silence only when iPhone is locked.

There’s also an “allow calls from” setting — if this is set to “everyone” or “favorites” the call might be coming through. Is the phone you were using to call on your favorites list?

No, I was getting normal voice calls that would ring on the Mac when my phone was upstairs. I liked that very much.

What made me shut it down was a relative that loves FaceTime, initiating a FaceTime call with me right after I crawled out of bed and sat down to check my email. It flashed on the screen, I quickly shut it down and turned it all off. I suppose I could have done the electrical tape thing but that was in the basement and did I mention I was barely awake?

Thanks Dave

I only started using DND when I got an Apple Watch as it’s handy to silence both at once. I should have known there would’be a multiplicity of combinations for DND.

Through confusion comes greater understanding.
