Do you have old archives of TidBITS Talk?

Hi folks,

As we prepare for the move to Discourse, I’m hoping to take the opportunity to import the entire history of TidBITS Talk, which will have been going for 20 years in March.

The only problem is that there’s some corruption in the mailboxes that I had in Eudora from 1998 through 2009. I have the mailboxes, and they’re OK for browsing in EagleFiler, but when I look at them in BBEdit, it’s pretty clear that there are problems that would likely get in the way of a clean import.

So the question is, does anyone on the list have the TidBITS Talk archives from 1998 through the beginning of 2009? My first message in the clean archive I have in Mail is from January 15th, 2009.

cheers... -Adam

I have what I believe is a full set, going back to 2007.  The beginning of this set starts in 2000, but quickly jumps to the more consist sets that begin in 2007.

I may have more, going back to the late 90’s, but need a better idea of the file type that I should complete a search on?

I have tidbits-talk from 10/31/2003 onward but I know there are brief gaps because I used to get unsubscribed because of bounces. But I should have most of them from 10/31/2003 to 1/15/2009. Before that I just subscribed to the TidBITS magazine.

ok - I appear to have them.

I do not old archives anymore (i've been trying to keep less than a decade of list mail :), but I would willingly take a look at the mbox files and see if I can massage them into shape.

(send me an link to the files at my non-list address, [hidden email], if you want me to take a crack at them, I've done this numerous times in the past with Eudora mboxes)

So the question is, does anyone on the list have the TidBITS Talk archives from 1998 through the beginning of 2009? My first message in the clean archive I have in Mail is from January 15th, 2009.

ok - I appear to have them.

Thanks, Marshall! (Sorry I missed your ping last night…) I’ll coordinate with you off line.

Alan Forkosh also has a good collection, so I’ll compare the two.

What kind of problems are you seeing? (so I can check to see if I have the same problems)

I doubt you would, but when I scroll through the file in BBEdit, there are clearly bits and pieces of message headers in the wrong places. I suspect there was corruption at some point when the files were in Eudora due to crashes and who knows what else.

cheers... -Adam
