Printing options?

Bill Taylor
Hello All!

Can anyone please recommend a site where I can order toner cartridge for my beloved, old Apple LaserWriter Select 360, here in Canada?

While this machine is still viable, Xerox has confirmed to me that they're no longer making toners that will fit this model, and so far, I’ve been less than impressed with refilled toners that I’ve had in this machine.

Alternatively, I’m considering a new printer, specifically this one: https://www.costco.ca/Xerox®-Phaser™-6600DN-Colour-Laser-Printer.product.100145261.html

The online reviews of read are not exactly glowing, so what alternate printers, that are roughly comparable with this one, are worth considering?

Cheers,

Bill Taylor

I have no idea who ships to Canada.

The Apple LaserWriter Select 360 was made for Apple by Xerox.  It's easier to find toner cartridges for your printer using the Xerox part number:  113R5

You can find a bunch of places that still offer that cartridge via a Google search.

Here's one:

Xerox-Tektronix 113R5 Compatible Cartridge
$90 U.S.

That printer was discontinued over 20 years ago. It might be time to buy a newer, faster, better, cheaper, more power efficient printer that has toner available for it.

I’ve been very happy with my HL-L2380DW which is not just a great duplex printer, but also a very good scanner. I picked this one because it doesn’t have fax capabilities to get in the way. It also supports wifi printing, so I can easily pint from my phone or iPad.

(not that I print, ever, but my wife does, constantly).

Under US$150 or CA$150. Toner lasts a very long time and 3rd party toner carts run about CA$15-20.

I second this recommendation. We kept our LaserWriter going with 2 rounds of expensive repairs for years after it was discontinued because I have a huge collection of PostScript fonts that would cost a humongous amount of money to replicate in OpenType, even if I just bought a few. PostScript emulation didn't initially do a great job with tiny or extremely large type, but that changed quickly and we were unnecessarily hesitant to make the move. If typography is the reason you are hanging on to the LaserWriter, moving to a newer model will mean much faster and quieter printing, better rendering, etc.

We've had an HP for years and have been happy with it.

Marilyn
