Screen Sharing: G4 Macmini (OSX 10.4.11) with Macmini (OSX Sierra)

Les van Rooyen
Any ideas how to share a G4 Macmini (10.4.11) screen with  a Macmini with OSX Sierra?
I get an Enable Screen Sharing (not present in 10.4.11) or Remote Management (enabled in 10.4.11) error..
Internet help is (so far) for sharing with OSX 10.5+ versions.

Les

According to this 10+ year old article, in OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger), you want to enable the Apple Remote Desktop sharing option (I didn't explicitly search TidBITS, it was just one of the top google results for '"os x" tiger screen sharing').

If the G4 doesn't show up in the Sierra Mac mini's Network view in the Finder, click the Go menu, choose Connect to Server, and use the G4's ip address on your home network, e.g. <a href="vnc://10.0.1.105" class="">vnc://10.0.1.105.

I'm assuming both Mac minis are on the same home network. If not, I don't think Tiger can use Back to My Mac to help with traversing the separate networks.

I am not sure about this, but I think the OS X Screen Sharing has changed since 10.4, so it may not be possible to use Screen Sharing between it an Sierra. However, both versions of macOS support VNC, so a VNC client will work (albeit not as well, but it will work).

I used to use Chicken of the VNC, which appears to still be a thing, though forked and renamed to just Chicken.

I am pretty sure I was able to do it a couple of weeks ago with my 10.4 drive, but I had to click on something that didn’t make as much sense - Apple Remote maybe? It’s not called screen sharing on the 10.4 side.
